Brooksville Public Library (1988 – 1992)
One of my favorite rural library jobs was in Brooksville, Maine, population 750. We were open 10 hours a week, in the old building, and had 20 volunteers, who raised the operating expenses for the tiny facility. While I was there, the town obtained a community block grant and moved into a modern facility, complete with indoor plumbing and central heat. When my work at WoodenBoat Publications went to full time, I felt I had to pass on the library job to some other deserving person.
